A Grand Baby Show was organized at Mother’s Pride, Ludhiana on Sunday 22nd December, 2013.

A show that showcased baby’s most spell binding antics and qualities. Children were evaluated under different age groups i.e. 0 - 6 months, 7 - 12 months, 1 -2 years & 2-3years. Ramp walk was done by participants with their family members that turned their little heroes into megastars and superheroes. Family fashion show added a massive attraction. Be it a mesmerizing smile or a flittering expression in the eyes, there were several titles like Most Active Baby, Most Attractive Baby, Friendliest Baby, Most Sparkling Eyes & Sunniest Smile along with grand prizes. Titles & gifts were also given to parents like the Most Aware Parent & Best Dressed Family. Surprise gifts were given to all the participants. Title of ALL ROUND SUPER BABY was also given to the child securing the highest scores in all the categories.
The Baby Show received huge response from the premium segment of Ludhianvies as more than 200 babies participated in the show. Great energy can be seen in the participants, who surely had a fulfilled Sunday with lots of pomp and show. It was a moment of great celebration. Almost 70 participants received prizes in different age categories under different titles. The participants were evaluated not only on their cute quotient but also on the health and activeness by the renowned doctors of the city i.e. Dr. Rama Sofat, Dr. Anurag Jain, Dr. Sunaina & Dr. Deepak. Winners were given the title of Most Healthy Baby. 
It was not only a health educative session, but also provided abundant parenting knowledge to the parents. 
The Director of the School, Shobhan Soi told the parents about the importance of Parenting and Nurturing children in the right manner.

Merry Christmas Celebration, 2013

College of Nursing+CMCH Wishing U a Merry Xmas 

 Ludhiana, 13th December, 2013: (Shalu Arora+Rector Kathuria): Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a blessed experience. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy and to re-dedicate our own lives. College of Nursing, CMC, Ludhiana celebrated Christmas on 13.12.2013. The programme began with a welcome speech by Principal, Prof.(Mrs.) Ponnamma R. Singh, after which all the dignitaries, guests, teachers and students joined the college choir to sing the congregational hymn.
The opening prayer and the Christmas message was given by Rev. Rogers. The whole gathering was then enlightened with the message from the Director Dr. Abraham G. Thomas. He wished all that the Christmas fill their hearts with warmth, peace and joy! And to have a blessed Christmas and graceful New Year. The soulful and pleasant carols by students mesmerized all and filled the whole air.
Continuing with the Christmas merriment College of Nursing students presented the Christmas play “The Wonderful Star” which showed God’s love for mankind by sending His only begotten Son for our salvation and this love has to be reflected in all of us and then came the most awaited moment i.e. “Arrival of Santa” who had a merry time with the gathering and distributed gifts among students. At the end all enjoyed the fellowship & relished the banquet together as a family in the beautifully decorated College of Nursing.

Role of a clinical microbiologist in the present era

Ludhiana, 7th December, 2013: (Rector Kathuria//Punjab Screen): A continuing medical education (CME) programme on Infectious diseases was conducted in Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Ludhiana on December 7. The CME was jointly organized by the Departments of Medicine and Microbiology of CMC, Ludhiana. Dr. Abraham G Thomas, Director of CMC was the Chief Guest. Along with him, Dr. Karamveer Goyal, President of Local Indian Medical Association, Dr. S.M. Bhatti, Principal of CMC, Dr. Kanwal Masih, Medical Superintendant, CMC, Dr. Kim J Mammen, Associate Director, CMC inaugurated the CME officially. A total of 170 delegates from different parts of Punjab attended the meeting.

The participants in this CME included distinguished faculty members from different medical colleges, specialists in district hospital and other government hospitals, medical officers and private practitioners from the state of Punjab. The aim of this update was to improve the understanding of common infectious diseases relevant to clinical practice and interpretation of microbiological results. The meeting was accredited with two hours by the Punjab Medical Council.

Dr. Aroma Oberoi, Head of the Department of Microbiology spoke on the topic “Role of a clinical microbiologist in the present era of pan drug resistant bugs and no drugs”. She mentioned the importance of clinical microbiologists in tackling the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. Mrs. Shereen Rachel Varghese from the department of Microbiology educated the audience on the various mechanisms of drug resistance.

Dr. Mary John, Head of the department of Medicine gave a talk on “Antibiotic Stewardship”. In this talk, she stressed on the need to have an antibiotic stewardship programme in the hospitals to prevent the emergence of drug resistance. Dr. Jency Koshy from the Department of Medicine spoke on “Pre-ART work up in HIV infection”, in which she educated the audience on the importance of work up before starting antiretroviral therapy. Dr. Divya Deodhar fom the Department of Medicine talked on “Syndromic approach to Acute Undifferentiated Fevers”. She gave an overview of the clinical diagnosis of undifferentiated fevers.

Dr. Sanjay Rajpal from New Delhi spoke on newer diagnostic methods in Tuberculosis, in which he updated the audience on the newer tests for the diagnosis of Tuberculosis. The delegates actively participated by asking questions to the speakers. The scientific sessions were chaired by eminent Professors from CMC like Dr. Anna Mani, Dr. Nitin Malhotra, Dr.Vandana Berry and Dr. Chanchal Gera. The in-charge of the scientific session was Dr. Vipin Sam Alexander. The Masters of ceremony were Dr. Eshani Dewan and Dr. Chris Baby. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Sangeetha Mohan from CMC. As per the delegates, the CME was a very enriching and educational feast.

India is facing the emergence of a “hidden” epidemic:disability

Ludhiana, 17th November, 2013: (Shalu Arora  and Rector Kathuria): India, the world’s second most populous country, is facing the emergence of a “hidden” epidemic: disability due to neurologic diseases. The rapid economic, demographic, and social transformation of India in recent decades has already resulted in the double burden of unresolved epidemics of infectious diseases (e.g., malaria, tuberculosis) coupled with rising rates of chronic diseases (e.g., stroke, heart attack). This was stated by Professor Gourie Devi, former Director and Vice-Chancellor of National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore in the 31st Dr LH Lobo memorial oration. She said stroke, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injuries due to road traffic accidents are the major causes of disability in India.  She spoke also about the delivery of neurological services at different levels of care in India.

Dr LH Lobo memorial trust, Ludhiana has been organizing the Dr LH Lobo Memorial Oration and Scientific symposium for the last 30 years, in memory of the late Dr LH Lobo, an eminent and renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon and Former Head of Orthopaedic department and Principal of Christian Medical College (CMC), Ludhiana.   This year the 31st Dr LH Lobo Memorial Oration was organised by the department of Neurology, CMC on November 16th in the hospital auditorium. The inaugural function and the oration were conducted by Shri Sukhpat Rai Wadehra, President, Dr LH Lobo Memorial Trust and Dr MK Mahajan, Secretary, Padma Bhushan Prof JS Chopra, from Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour. Dr S Chopra gave the vote of thanks.

After the oration a CME on ”Management of Central Nervous System Infections” was organised by the department of Neurology, CMC Ludhiana. Prof Satishchandra Director and Vice-Chancellor of NIMHANS Bangalore gave a talk on the neurological manifestations in HIV patients.  Dr S Prabhakar, Head of Neurology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, updated the audience on the recent management of Bacterial meningitis. Prof Mathew Alexander HOD, Dept of Neurology, CMC Vellore spoke about the brain infection following measles virus. Prof Gourie Devi discussed about the various types of TB infection that can affect the brain.

Prof Yashpal Singh briefly talked about the common viral infection of the brain called Herpes simplex encephalitis. Prof Gagandeep Singh discussed various treatment options for Neurocysticercosis(tape worm) affecting the brain. Dr Jency Koshy gave a lecture on neurological complications that can occur due to Dengue fever. Dr DivyaDeodhar spoke about the current treatment of TB infection affecting the brain. Dr Vikas Loomba talked about the emerging infection called Scrub Typhus and its neurological manifestations. A PG Quiz on the Neuroinfections was held during the program. More than 200 delegates attended the program. 21st National Conference of Medical Biochemists

Ludhiana, 16th November, 2013: (Shalu Arora and Rector Kathuria): The 21st national conference of Association of Medical Biochemists of India was inaugurated today at Hotel Gulmor, Ludhiana by Sh.Parkash Singh Badal. The national conference has been organized by Dept. of Biochemistry CMC Ludhiana.
Dr.Bharti Uppal organizing Chairperson intimated that the conference is being attended by around 500 delegates from all over the India and abroad. There are delegates from Uk, USA, Australia and states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, J & K, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh, MP, Karnatka, Kerla, Tamilnadu, A.P, Odissa, WB, Assam, Tripura, Gujrat & Maharashtra.
Speaking on the occasion Advisor to CM, S.Maheshinder Singh Grewal appraised the gathering and said that there is need of good clinical chemist for proper treatment of patient.
The CM in his inaugural speech said Punjab is a very small state as compare to other big states. We lost much area during partisan, but I am proud of Punjab. Punjab is a soul of country. Maximum sacrifice for the country has been done by Punjab.  

Health care is becoming very costly. It beyond of the common man. We in the Govt. doing best. More costly treatment is cancer, we recently open center in Mulanpur and Chd. There are 400 beds in these centers. It will take 1 year of time to work properly .All of us know health is more important then wealth. I congratulate all of you.

Dr.Bharti uppal HOD Biochemistry CMC Ludhiana and organizing secretary welcomed the guest gathering and informed that medical biochemist are an integral part of the patient care. The betterment in diagnostic facilities helps to improve the diagnoses and management.  

Dr A.G. Thomas , Director CMC said that the scientific sessions should went on a long way in paving the path to bridge the gap between a clinician and clinical laboratory personnel. He congratulates Dr.Bharti Uppal for a successful event.

Children and Staff celebrated Togetherness and Traditions 

Ludhiana:15 November 2013:(*Shobhan Soi//Education Screen Bureau): Today Gurupurab - Birthday of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji was celebrated with the students at Mother’s Pride, Ludhiana.
Children were made aware of HIS teachings & taken to Gurudwara where they all received the blessing from the almighty God. Ardaas was performed, praying for the bright future of the children. Students also recited the Mool Mantra, leaving all the present at the Gurudwara mesmerized. At the end, Karah Prasad & sweets were distributed among the students & staff.

The school was also beautifully decorated, with hymns enchanting in the ambience. Enchanting of hymns made the entire environment very lively & soothing. Students & Staff members also came dressed up traditionally.

Director of the school, Mr. Shobhan Soi, also blessed the students on this occasion & prayed for their long life.

Children’s Day was celebrated

A function was held at St. Bawra Public High School

Ludhiana: 14 November 2013: (Education Screen Bureau):Children’s Day was celebrated at St. Bawra Public High School, New Lajpat Nagar, Ludhiana on 14th Nov’13 with great excitement. The school was beautifully decorated with balloons.
Children were explained about the importance of the day by the teachers, in a common assembly. There were also a variety of games for the children. Students enjoyed different rides & bouncies installed especially for the day. There was a small declamation contest on the life & works of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. 
Candies were distributed among the children for the occasion.
Principal of the school, Mrs. Chander Prabha gave her blessings to all the children for their bright future. She wished all the students to grow up as good human beings & responsible citizens of the country.
