PG Dept of Hindi & Research Centre, SCD Government College Ludhiana organised a webinar to take feedback from the faculty on "Higher Education: Challenges and Road Map during Covid-19". With the outbreak of the pandemic, direct contact classes had been suspended as per the order of PU, Chd since 25.3.2020. However, the faculty members of SCD Government College, Ludhiana, continued teaching through the various online methods and have almost completed the syllabus.
The Zoom meeting was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu who invited the teachers to share their experiences.  He also appreciated the initiative of Dr. Saurabh Kumar from the Hindi department for organizing this meeting.
As many as 60 teachers connected and discussed their first-hand experience of conducting classes via Zoom, Google Classroom, WhatsApp chat, and calls. They brought to the fore the advantages and difficulties faced.
Prof. (Dr.) Ashwani Bhalla laid emphasis on devising ways through which students could be evaluated and assessed. In the present state of uncertainty, we cannot just wait while the situation returns to normalcy. We should keep our work ready to meet and respond to any policy that the Government or the University comes up with. He discussed the conduct of examinations for final year students  through 2 modes-online and through internal assessment by the teacher. Since the teacher knows the caliber of the student, she / he is the best judge of the student. The online method is not feasible as a large number of our students are either from rural areas or they belong to financially weaker sections of society . As such they do not have good access to strong internet connectivity.
Dr. Tanvir Sachdev from the department of English advised about  preparing and delivering lectures through You Tube. She stressed upon the need to approach the syllabus in a systematic way, adapting ourselves to the need of the time.
Prof. Deepak Chopra from the department of Physics pointed  out difficulties regarding  practical subjects which can only be taught in a laboratory. He generously appreciated those teachers of the college who have been on pandemic duty since 26.3.2020.
Prof. Reetinder Joshi suggested considering  the mid term examination that was conducted in mid March for evaluating the students.
Other teachers also gave valuable inputs on how to improve interaction with the students.
