The Entrepreneurship and Incubation Cell (EIC) of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh organized AICTE approved Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Design Thinking and Innovation Management in Startups in collaboration with National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh from 1st July to 5th July, 2024. Today, the Valedictory Ceremony of the 5-day long FDP was graced by esteemed Senior Faculty Member Prof. Uma Batra, as Acting Director of the Institute, Prof. Arun Kumar Singh (Head, SRIC), Dr. Rajesh Kanda (Head, Alumni, Corporate and International Relations), Dr. Harsh Vardhan Samalia (Coordinator, NITTTER), Dr. Simranjit Singh (Convener, PEC) and Dr. Sudesh Rani (Coordinator, PEC). 

The convener of the FDP, Dr. Simranjit Singh briefed about the session and shed light on the valuable knowledge gained in this 5-day long FDP. He also expressed his gratitude towards the esteemed delegates and all the participants. He emphasis on the fact that these FDPs would definitely came up many startups by the end of this year. He also shared insights on the working and activities performed by EIC, PEC. 

Coordinator for this FDP, from NITTTR, Chandigarh, Dr. Harsh Vardhan Samalia, expressed his deepest regard towards all the esteemed dignitaries and coordinators of the FDP. He also shed light on all the sessions and gave useful insights gained from various speakers through out the week. He also shared the knowledgeable takeaways from visit of TBYF, at IIT Ropar. He provided his valuable insights on the Intellectual Property Rights in the field of Startups.  

Prof. Arun Kumar Singh (Head, SRIC), talked about the mindset for initiating startups. He also shared the various funding schemes and organizations to promote our students for startups and convert them from job seekers to job provider. 

Dr. Rajesh Kanda, (Head, Alumni, Corporate and International Relations) gave his valuable insights to initiate startup programs for the students in the coursework. He also expressed his urge to cooperate in any of kind work from the Alumni Office of the institute. 

Prof. Uma Batra, expressed her deepest regard for being a part of valedictory session. She also applauded the organizers and participants of this FDP. She shed on the importance of bringing the innovative experiments from the labs to the market-oriented industry. To bring out that gap between academia and industry, it is necessary to analysis the usage of our innovations in the real-world. We should look at the problems of industry as well to solve them out through our technologies up to an extent. She also emphasized on the Intellectual Property Rights, on building a supply chain, manufacturing of the product, cost of the product, and advertisement cost as well. Lastly, she remarked on the thought of starting from the scratch. 

   

This 5 day FDP had provided the participant with deep thinking in designing and Innovation Management of startups. It had given specific insights in modern technological skills for Innovative Products. 

The main Resource Persons of this 5-day FDP were inclusive of Dr. Harsh Vardhan Samalia, Mr. Hitesh Gulati, Prof. Suresh Kumar Dhameja, Prof. MD Singh from Thapar University, Ms. Indu Aggarwal, Dr. Deepak Jain, Dr. Niraj Bala etc. would provide insight on the team building, corporative leadership, Women's Entrepreneurial Perspective, Innovative Management, knowledge of Incubators etc. 

The main patron of this FDP was Director, PEC Prof. Rajesh Bhatia (Ad Interim), along with Director, NITTTR, Prof. Bhola Ram Gurjar. Dr. Simranjit Singh, (Convener PEC), along with Dr. Harsh Vardhan Samalia, (Coordinator, NITTER), were the main coordinators for the whole FDP. The organizing team included Dr. Sudesh Rani, Dr. Jaskirat Kaur, (Coordinators, PEC), Dr. Nidhi Tanwar (CMH, Faculty), Dr. Ajay Kumar (EED, Faculty), Dr. Jasvinder Singh (PIED, Faculty) conducted the whole workshop very brilliantly. Along with these insightful sessions, there was also a one day visit to TBIF, IIT Ropar as well. 

Dr. Sudesh Rani (Coordinator, PEC) provided a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and participants for successful conductance of this FDP.

A special assembly was conducted by the students of Grade VII where they shed light on the history behind this auspicious day and also apprised everyone about the glory of Punjab, the land of five rivers. Through an inspiring poem in Punjabi, the students urged to preserve the rich culture of Punjab. The celebration culminated with a beautiful performance of Malvai Giddha. Addressing the students the Principal, Dr. Manisha Gangwar congratulated everyone on the Punjab Day and emphasized that every one should get acquainted with rich culture of Punjab. She further motivated everyone to always stay focused and optimistic.

The intellectual students of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana took part in Mock Emergency Prime Minister Meeting , a conference organised by the Department of Public administration on 22 March 2022.   Conducted under the guidance of principal, Mrs. Suman Lata ,Vice Principal Mrs Kirpal Kaur, HOD Mrs. Baljit Kaur , and Assistant professor Mr. Dinesh Sharda, the agenda of the conference was India's national interest in International Relations with special reference to Russian-Ukrainian war. Ms. Japneet Kaur and Ms. Harsimar Kaur served as the moderator and deputy moderator respectively. The best delegate was awarded to Samridhi Kapila, High commendation to Richa Dem and Simarpreet Kaur and special mention to Swati Malhotra , Rishika Kriti and Gurleen Kaur . Overall it was an interactive and an informative session as the delegates/students discussed the various effects of the war on India and also some strategies to overcome the same . The event proved to be a successful one because of joint efforts of secretariat students, Ishpreet Kaur, Manveer Kaur, Gurpriya Kaur, Ashmeet Kaur , Sargun , Eva Arora and Karuna.

The Planning Forum Society and Consumer Forum Society of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana organized Econovista-a three day virtual event comprising of various activities such as essay writing, slogan writing, Quiz and Extempore under the aegis of Principal, Dr.Sukhwinder Kaur. The event was commenced by a warm welcome to the Principal, Dr. Sukhwinder Kaur and other esteemed guests. While addressing, Principal Dr. Sukhwinder Kaur said these type of competitions can be successful only if students put their hard work and dedication to it. She further enlightened the students with her words of wisdom and motivated all the students to take part in these type of competitions to stay in touch with the ongoing issues of our economy.

On the first day Slogan writing and Essay writing competition were held in which more than 60 students participated with full zeal and fervor. On the following day of the competition, an interactive quiz was organized by Inayat and Shivani of Planning Forum. On the third and Final day of the virtual event,  Extempore competition was held among the qualified students from the previous two rounds. PowerPoint Presentations were also presented by the presidents of both planning forum and consumer forum. Students displayed impeccable oratory creative and scholarly skills in the four activities.The topics from current economic problems such as Inflation, Effects of Covid-19 on the economy, Role and Importance of E-commerce and New Education Policy were covered in the essay writing competition.

The judges of the event were Dr Jaspreet Kaur of Home Science Department and Dr Tarunpreet of Botany Department. 

Principal, Dr. Sukhwinder Kaur congratulated all the winners and encouraged them to participate in such events in future too.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Gurmeet Singh from the Department of Economics who also explained the importance of these type of competitions for the exposure of students.

Mega event eDhanak at CT University

In a mega competitive event e-Dhanak 2021, 1083 students from 47 schools of the region participated at CT University, Ludhiana. The event was inaugurated by Chancellor Charanjit S Channi, Managing Director Manbir Singh, Vice Chairman Harpreet Singh and Vice Chancellor Dr. Harsh Sadawarti.

In this, 16 different events took place like CT Sur Sartaj, Indian Heritage Dance (Folk Dance), painting, cartooning, poster making, rangoli, elocution, quiz, clay modelling, etc all via online mode.  Students from schools namely Guru Nanak International Public School, Ludhiana; HVM Convent School, SDN International Public School; Guru Nanak School, Bassian; Baba Ganda Singh Sen. Sec. School, Langrian, Amargarh and Dashmesh Public Sen Sec School , Bilaspur, etc. participated enthusiastically.

The participants won cash prizes in different events. The first prize in Solo Dance was bagged by Ekpreet Singh from Guru Nanak International Public School, Ludhiana; in ‘Just Debate’ 1st prize was won by Guru Nanak Internatonal School Ludhiana’s Tanveer Kaur and Ravneet Kaur, in ‘Story Building’ 1st prize from Amrit Indo Canadian School by Harshita Nehra, in ‘Declamation’ 1st prize by Sneha Singh, in ‘face painting’ the first prize was bagged by HVM Convent Senior Secondary School, Basti Jodewal. 

Telling about the motive behind this event Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Chancellor said, “This year pandemic hit us all but our spirits to honour the talents did not stop. We switched to online mode but the fun and learning went hand in hand. All the events were perfectly handled online as well. The prize distribution ceremony was held offline.”

The Series of Centenary Celebrations held in the city

The Post Graduate department of English of SCD Government College organised an extension lecture on Post Colonial Literature today under the patronage of the principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu and the competent guidance of Prof. Tanveer Lekhari ( Head of PG Dept. Of English). It’s objective was to amplify the knowledge of the students in the field of Post Colonial Literature. Retired Principal (Govt. Mohindra College Patiala ) and State Award winner for the excellent services in the field of Education

 Dr. (Prof.) Sangeeta Handa was the guest speaker. She was given a floral welcome by the principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu, prof. Tanveer and all the faculty members of the department.

Prof. Harmeet kaur Jhajj introduced the guest speaker to the audience and thanked  her for being a  part of the series of centenary celebrations of SCD Government College.

Dr Sangeeta, through her PPT presentation, explained  a brief history of Postcolonial literature; Edward Said's book ‘Orientalism’-the foundational work on which post-colonial theory developed; and  the Postcolonial Literature Characteristics.

She dealt with concepts like Postcolonial, Postcolonial Writing, Postcolonial Reading, and Postcolonial Theory in a very elaborative and coherent manner

Dr Sangeeta also gave an insight into the works of Homi Bhabha, Gayatri Spivak and Foucault.

It was a wonderful interactive session and many students of PG Dept of English quenched their inquisitive thirst by asking many questions from the guest speaker.

Thereafter principal Dharam Singh Sandhu also addressed the students and told  them that literature  provides a gateway to life experiences. It is a journey that is inscribed in pages, and powered by  imagination.

In the end Prof. Reetinder Joshi proposed the vote of thanks.

A Grand Baby Show was organized at Mother’s Pride, Ludhiana on Sunday 22nd December, 2013.

A show that showcased baby’s most spell binding antics and qualities. Children were evaluated under different age groups i.e. 0 - 6 months, 7 - 12 months, 1 -2 years & 2-3years. Ramp walk was done by participants with their family members that turned their little heroes into megastars and superheroes. Family fashion show added a massive attraction. Be it a mesmerizing smile or a flittering expression in the eyes, there were several titles like Most Active Baby, Most Attractive Baby, Friendliest Baby, Most Sparkling Eyes & Sunniest Smile along with grand prizes. Titles & gifts were also given to parents like the Most Aware Parent & Best Dressed Family. Surprise gifts were given to all the participants. Title of ALL ROUND SUPER BABY was also given to the child securing the highest scores in all the categories.
The Baby Show received huge response from the premium segment of Ludhianvies as more than 200 babies participated in the show. Great energy can be seen in the participants, who surely had a fulfilled Sunday with lots of pomp and show. It was a moment of great celebration. Almost 70 participants received prizes in different age categories under different titles. The participants were evaluated not only on their cute quotient but also on the health and activeness by the renowned doctors of the city i.e. Dr. Rama Sofat, Dr. Anurag Jain, Dr. Sunaina & Dr. Deepak. Winners were given the title of Most Healthy Baby. 
It was not only a health educative session, but also provided abundant parenting knowledge to the parents. 
The Director of the School, Shobhan Soi told the parents about the importance of Parenting and Nurturing children in the right manner.

Ludhiana, 7th December, 2013: (Rector Kathuria//Punjab Screen): A continuing medical education (CME) programme on Infectious diseases was conducted in Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Ludhiana on December 7. The CME was jointly organized by the Departments of Medicine and Microbiology of CMC, Ludhiana. Dr. Abraham G Thomas, Director of CMC was the Chief Guest. Along with him, Dr. Karamveer Goyal, President of Local Indian Medical Association, Dr. S.M. Bhatti, Principal of CMC, Dr. Kanwal Masih, Medical Superintendant, CMC, Dr. Kim J Mammen, Associate Director, CMC inaugurated the CME officially. A total of 170 delegates from different parts of Punjab attended the meeting.

The participants in this CME included distinguished faculty members from different medical colleges, specialists in district hospital and other government hospitals, medical officers and private practitioners from the state of Punjab. The aim of this update was to improve the understanding of common infectious diseases relevant to clinical practice and interpretation of microbiological results. The meeting was accredited with two hours by the Punjab Medical Council.

Dr. Aroma Oberoi, Head of the Department of Microbiology spoke on the topic “Role of a clinical microbiologist in the present era of pan drug resistant bugs and no drugs”. She mentioned the importance of clinical microbiologists in tackling the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. Mrs. Shereen Rachel Varghese from the department of Microbiology educated the audience on the various mechanisms of drug resistance.

Dr. Mary John, Head of the department of Medicine gave a talk on “Antibiotic Stewardship”. In this talk, she stressed on the need to have an antibiotic stewardship programme in the hospitals to prevent the emergence of drug resistance. Dr. Jency Koshy from the Department of Medicine spoke on “Pre-ART work up in HIV infection”, in which she educated the audience on the importance of work up before starting antiretroviral therapy. Dr. Divya Deodhar fom the Department of Medicine talked on “Syndromic approach to Acute Undifferentiated Fevers”. She gave an overview of the clinical diagnosis of undifferentiated fevers.

Dr. Sanjay Rajpal from New Delhi spoke on newer diagnostic methods in Tuberculosis, in which he updated the audience on the newer tests for the diagnosis of Tuberculosis. The delegates actively participated by asking questions to the speakers. The scientific sessions were chaired by eminent Professors from CMC like Dr. Anna Mani, Dr. Nitin Malhotra, Dr.Vandana Berry and Dr. Chanchal Gera. The in-charge of the scientific session was Dr. Vipin Sam Alexander. The Masters of ceremony were Dr. Eshani Dewan and Dr. Chris Baby. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Sangeetha Mohan from CMC. As per the delegates, the CME was a very enriching and educational feast.

Ludhiana, 27th August’13. (Vishal//Punjab Screen):Festivals are always a special occasion at Mothers Pride, as it believes that children need to be aware of our rich culture & traditions thereby respecting them.

Celebrating this feel of festivities, Janamashtami was celebrated at Mother’s Pride today with full vigor & zeal. Entire school was beautifully decorated with flower garlands to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna. Matki’s with makhan, Bal Gopal on swing were displayed to demonstrate about occasion to the children.  Brightening the spirit of the day, children also came dressed up as Krishna & Radha.

The celebration included the, Aarti, Flower showering, Tilak Ceremony, a small performance based on the life of Lord Krishna & dance on the bhajans of radha-Krishna. The school was captivated with the melodious bhajans and songs getting the children tap their feet to the music.

To the pleasure and enjoyment of children & staff, delicious Prasad was also distributed. Kids also enjoyed swinging the bal gopal & wished him a very happy birthday in their cute little voice.

Director of Mother’s Pride, Ludhiana Mr. Shobhan Soi also congratulated the students & staff on this occasion & gave them warm wishes on this special occasion of Janamashtami.

Pharma organised an awareness programme on 27^th Aug, 2013 to make young girls aware of general gynaecological disorders. The resource person on the occasion was Dr. Seema Goel from Raghunath Hospital, Ludhiana.

Dr. Goel appraised the students with the basic facts of general disorders mainly problems associated with pre-menstrual syndrome, type and features of dymenorrhoea and polycystic ovary syndrome. She also explained about the diagnosis, treatment and medication for all these types of disorders. She further added that polycystic ovary syndrome is caused due to increased level of male hormones in females. According to her all these types of disorders are treatable by medication, changes in diet and exercise. She stressed on the point that this syndrome is one of the leading causes of infertility and also affects the health in many other ways than just reproduction.

Lecture was followed by an interactive session. Students came up with questions and broke their initial shyness. Their queries were answered by the expert very clearly and thoroughly.

       Ludhiana: 8 August 2013: (Rector kathuria): Teej Festival cum Fresher’s Party was celebrated at Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women, Ludhiana to present an authentic Punjabi Culture with the blends of modern hues. The whole atmosphere was filled with gaiety when college girls dressed in elegant traditional as well as western attires staged their dance performances, skit, folk songs and modeling.
       College Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Parveen Kaur Chawla gave a hale and hearty welcome to the new entrants and also focused on the significance of Teej Festival in Modern Era.
        Arshdeep Kaur was crowned ‘Teeyan di Rani’, Harmandeep Kaur and Navdeep Kaur were titled Miss Punjaban and Miss Majajjan respectively.  Ashwarya was crowned as Miss Fresher Shifali & Harpreet Kaur as first & second runners up respectively. Sukhpreet Kaur got the title of Miss Diva whereas Garima was declared Miss Crowning Glory. The tag of Miss Beautiful smile went to Gurleen Kaur.Various competitions like traditional style of pleating hair, Beautiful Pranda, Ethnic jewelry, Mehndi Application, Beautiful Bangles and were held and the winners were given prizes. S. Swarn Singh Ji (President, College Managing Committee) and S. Kawalinder Singh Ji (Secratery, College Managing Committee) graced the occasion and stressed on the need for maintaining our rich Heritage and culture in the Modern times.

We can change our life...and the world also but skill of English speaking is an urgent condition for the success. A seminar cum special training held at Ludhiana by the Kapri Institute of English speaking. Mr. Ashwin Pandey market manager, examination service British Council was the key speaker in the seminar.More than 150 students benefited from this special session. 

Mr. Ashwin Pandey announced that two new British Council IELTS test centresare started in Punjab. From 16the May students can also take tests in Moga and Bathinda with the British Council. He also announced scholarships given by the British Council. He told the students about road to IELTS which is free online training session for all IELTS aspirants. he also guided the candidates about all the steps and modules of IELTS. 

Speaking on the occasion, Anjali Chawla, Head of the Department of IELTS at the Kapri Institute said that teachers are trained by British Council. She said that Kapri has also a test registration centre for the British Council and has already trained more than 16,000 students.

Nitin Chawla, director marketing Kapri Institute said kapri held such workshops every year to help students to update skills. He also thanked Mr. Ashwin Pandey and Miss Harjot Kalsi for delivering the wonderful presentation to the students.

43 Medical Graduates were awarded the degrees

Ludhiana, 16th March, 2013(Shalu Arora and Rector Kathuria):Annual Convocation of Christian Medical College, Christian Dental College, College of Nursing and College of Physiotherapy, Ludhiana was held on   16th March 2013 with traditional grandeur today in the College Campus, Dr. Harvinder S.Luthra, MD. Gill, John Finn Professor, Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School, Rochester, USA was the Chief Guest. He said, “At the outset, let me thank the Institute for inviting me here to participate in this memorable occasion and to distribute the Convocation credentials to merit holders. This profession is prestigious, with ample scope for growth. You are part of the educated class that society looks up to, for guidance and awareness. On this convocation day, I wish all the young Doctors & Nurses the very best in life and a wonderful future with achievements and I wish they should also treat the poor people Christian Medical College has a long tradition of pursuing excellence in teaching and research in science. He also appreciated the Christian Medical College & Hospital for its exceptional services in the field of Medical.

Dr. Abraham G. Thomas, Director welcomed the gathering, Dr. S. M. Bhatti, Principal administered the Hippocratic Oath to the Graduates and Postgraduates. Forty three (43) Medical Graduates were awarded the degrees.  Students excelling in various academic activities were awarded Prizes and Medals by the Director CMC Ludhiana. 

Dr.Bir Inder Kumar chathley First Prize for best work during internship in SPM was given to Dr.Shipra Rachna Singh, Dr.Rejul K.Raj and Dr.Shyma Markose, Vipin Khanna memorial gold medal for best intern goes to Dr.Sebastian Marker. Dr.Jaswant kaur Gill Memorial award for best out going Medical Resident goes to Dr.Deepti Joy, out going Orthopaedics Resident award goes to Dr.Prince S.Khan, and Dr.Abraham G.Thomas Award for the best outgoing resident in Surgery goes to Dr.Kamal Nabh Negi. Dr.Eileen B.Snow- CMC Alumni Prize for best all round graduate goes to Elizabeth Wilson and Gayatri Bhattia. Overview of faculty achievements was presented by Principal, Dr. S.M.Bhatti. The Association of Medical Alumni awarded Life Time Achievement award to Dr. Arindra Nath Chatterjee. Dr. V. K. Satija Award for best Clinical Teacher went to Dr. Arpit Jacob Mathew while batch of 1976 Excellence in Teaching Award went to Dr. Nitin Batra.

Dr. Abi M. Thomas, Principal presented the college report. There were 40 BDS graduates to receive their degree.  13 students received gold medals.In the report the Principal highlighted the achievements of the faculty and students in the last year.  Ms. Shinu Koshy was the topper in the Final Prof. BDS exam in the college.  The passing percentage of the students in final Prof exam was 95% who completed BDS course.  Last year there were 21 publications, 24, paper presentations by the dental college faculty nationally and internationally.  At present there are 10 research project works undertaken during the last year. The student’s council actively supported the administration in co-coordinating difference programmes.  He expressed his gratitude to the CMC administration, Baba Farid University, Dental Council of India, Director of Medical Education and Research and Govt. of Punjab.

Nursing education has completed 124 years. Today 56 B. Sc. Nursing graduates awarded the degree on 37th Convocation. The Chief Guest awarded the prizes and medals to the academically outstanding graduates. Christina Benjamin B. Sc. Nursing 1st year, Gurwinder Kaur B. Sc. Nursing 2nd year, Damanpreet Kaur B.Sc. Nursing 3rd year, Navpreet Kaur B. Sc. Nursing 4th year secured 1st position in the College. Navpreet Kaur secured first position in B. Sc. Nursing Aggregate. Special prizes were awarded to Smitha Sebastian for the Best Community Health Student Nurse, Jainy K. for Best Bed Side Student Nurse and Sonia Mattu for the All Round Best Student Nurse. Dr. Usha Singh received THORPES (Special) AWARD for the successful completion of her Doctorate.

This was the second Convocation of the College of Physiotherapy, Christian Medical College. 15graduates were awarded the degree. Students of 1st, 2nd,3rd  & 4th years received  prizes & certificates for their achievements in the University examinations. Nine students had achieved University ranks. 20 distinctions in different subjects in University examinations held in September 2012. Divita Arora stood 2nd in the Final professional examination. Sukhampreet Kaur stood 1st in University in second professional examination.

The New Delhi World Book Fair 2013 

 

National Book Trust, India, an apex body of the Ministry of Human Resource Development engaged in book promotional activities in the country is organizing New Delhi World Book Fair from 4 to 10 February 2013 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.  The Fair is being co-organized with India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), Pragati Maidan.  Dr Shashi Tharoor, Hon’ble Minister of State has kindly consented to inaugurate the Fair on 4^th February 2012, Monday, at 10.30 a.m. at Hall No. 7, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.  Dr Karan Singh, the eminent author, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and President, Indian Council for Cultural Relations would be the Guest of Honour.  Mr François Richier, Ambassador of France for India will be the special guest on the occasion. The Fair will be opened for general public from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on 4^th & 5^th February 2013 and for rest of the days, it would be opened to public from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For the first time, special business hours have also been arranged from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 4^th & 5^th February 2013 where the exhibitors can have their business dealings with their trade counterparts. ITPO shall charge an entry fee of Rs. 20/- for adults and Rs. 10/- for school children.

  

General Information - This year, the Fair will be spread over an area of 45,000 sq mtr in Hall Nos.   1 – 7, 12, 12A, 14 & 18 where about 1100 exhibitors from India and abroad will display books at around 2100 stalls.  About 23 countries including China, USA, Poland, South Korea, Turkey and UNO agencies like WHO, UNESCO, among others will be displaying books in the Foreign Pavilion. There would be a fair representation of regional language publishers in Hall No.14 where about 100 participants would be showcasing their publications in all Indian regional languages. For the first time, special enclosure has been made for Government participants where Government publications would be made available.  A special enclosure for e-books has also been made in Hall No.6 where e-book publishers, developers and content providers would be showcasing their e-books and deliberating with the publishers for developing e-books.

The entry to the Book Fair would be from Gate Nos, 1, 2, 5, 7, 8 &10 and the entry tickets would be available at Gate Nos. 2, 5, 7 &10 for general public.

1.   Theme Presentation – The theme of the Fair is Indigenous Voices: Mapping India’s Folk and Tribal Literature.  The presentation will include special exhibition of books on various aspects of folk and tribal literature and culture, exhibits of art and crafts, workshops, panel discussions etc. at Hall No. 7 E.  As a part of theme presentation, the Trust has tied up with Sangeet Natak Academy for showcasing the cultural heritage of the tribal belts in country and also the folk culture which will be organized every evening from 4.30 p.m. at Lal Chowk open air theatre.

2.   Children & Youth Pavilion – This exclusive pavilion for children and youth will host a range of activities for promotion of books and reading like panel     discussions, skits, school librarian meet and interaction with sports icons etc.     There would also be an Author-Illustrators Corner in the pavilion in which eminent artists and writers from various parts of the country will interact with book lovers at Hall No.18. The Children and Youth Pavilion will be inaugurated by Shri Jitin Prasada, Hon’ble MOS (HRD) in the presence of Chairman, CBSE and Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan.

3.   Swami Vivekananda Pavilion – To commemorate the 150^th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Trust has tied up with AdvaitaAshram, Kolkata to have a special exhibit of original photos and books on Swami Vivekananda at Hall No.18.

4.   Literary Events – NBT is also facilitating other publishers and associations to hold their literary events in three seminar halls which are planned at Hall No. 18.  About 50 literary activities such as seminars, discussions and book release functions will be held in these halls.

New Initiatives

1.   Guest of Honour Country – This year, France is the Guest of Honour country at the New Delhi World Book Fair and as apresentation, they would be focusing on present glimpses of the industry and its writings through a large contingent of French publishers, authors and scholars. They would also engage in discussions and conversations with the Indian counterparts at the many literary programmes  andprofessional round table conferences which they have finalized to hold during the Fair.  The vibrant cultural heritage of France with its music, food as well as cinema will form a major component of French presentation.

      As a part of Bonjour India, the bureau of for the International Promotion of French           Books (BIEF), the Embassy of France in Indiaand the Institut of Francais  en inde are displaying close to 2000 French titles in the French Pavilion in Hall No.7C and             a host of literary events are scheduled on all seven days at Pragati Maidan.  Book launches, workshops and encounters with acclaimed authors such as TaharBen Jelloun, Kènizè Mourad   Dominique Siguad will be a part of their presentation.            The French presentation will also showcase various aspects of French culture through an exhibition entitled “France Remains”, a collection of 15 panels           on the presence of French heritage inIndia and a serious of film screening..          

2.   Author Corners – For the first time, the Trust has initiated to have four Author    Corners in various halls where more than 75 English, Hindi and other Indian      languages eminent authors and other literary personalities will have reading      sessions of their works and also interact with their readers. The        Author Corners have been planned in Hall No. 1A, 1R, 2 – 5, 12A  - 12 and 18.

3.   Book Art – NBT in association with the College of Art, Delhi will put a first-ever show of Book Art in India at the Fair.  A collective exhibition of Book art installations is being exhibited at the Foyer of Hall no. 7. These installations can      be interpreted as an expression of common desire to find reading material and the idea of reading permeating all nook and corners of human life.

4.   Cosplay – NBT in association with Khublei (an organization engaged in     literary activities) and the Tadpole Repertory Group is organizingCosplay competition on 8^th & 9^th February 2013 in Hall No.18 where participants would don costumes and accessories to represent literary characters and enact the role for a few minutes.  The event will provide a wonderful opportunity for children to get into the spirit of their favouritebooks by stepping inside the skin of fictional characters.

New Initiative B2B Activities

 1.   Rights Table – As an initiative to offer B2B match-making sessions between the publishers, an attempt has been made for the first time to have the New Delhi Rights Table on 2^nd & 3^rd February 2013 at Lounge ‘A’ near Gate No. 1 at Pragati Maidan. This Rights Table attempts to bring together publishers, writers, agents,       translators and editors from India and abroad at a forum to network and explore business opportunities together. The unique format will enable participants to book their own rights table, meet each-other,  present their products and ideas and also to tentatively finalize their interests and agreements for transfer of translations and other subsidiary rights of books available in English, Hindi and other regional languages.

2.   CEO Speak – CEO speak over Chairman’s Breakfast is a first-of-its-kind forum of CEOs and Senior Executives of the Indian publishing industry, being organized   by NBT jointly with FICCI on the occasion of New Delhi World Book Fair 2013.  The forum aims to discuss and share common issues and concerns to evolve a composite agenda of Indian publishing.  The inaugural function is scheduled on 5^thFebruary 2013 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Hotel, the Royal Plaza, Ashoka Road,             New Delhi.  Dr Shashi Tharoor, the eminent author and Minister of State would be delivering the key-note address and also interact with the participants.
