“Peace on earth will come to stay,

When we live Christmas every day.”

Munchkins of Kindergarten of Drishti Dr. R.C Jain Innovative Public School have celebrated Christmas festival with great pomp and show. Children become little Santa Claus by wearing the red colored Santa dresses and hoodies. They steal the show by singing carols and dance. The Christmas tree is decorated with paper ornaments, lanterns, lights, toys etc. They understand the importance of Jesus Christ because he was born on this special day.

“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world and behold,

Everything is softer and more beautiful.”

Ludhiana:19th December 2020: (Education Screen Bureau)::

The SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana Alumni Association remembered martyrdom of Goa Liberation War heroes of whom two prominent names Major Shiv Dev Singh Sidhu and Captain Vijay Sehgal were this college’s alumnus.

The GOA operation was done from 17th December, to 19th Dec,1961 In this process of Annexation of Goa  Republic of India annexed the former Portuguese Indian territories of Goa, Daman and Diu taken by Portuguese 451 years before then from India. Both Major Sidhu and Captain Sehgal of Ludhiana attained martyrdom on 19th Dec 1961.

Among those who remembered the martyrs were Dr G S Grewal, Poet Gurbhajan Gill, Prof. Dr.Harblas, Prof.Dr. Kamal Kishor. Col Inderjit Singh Gill, Ashok Dheer, Dr Sunil Chopra, S S Bhogal (All old students) and Alumni Coordinator Brij Bhushan Goyal. Dr. Grewal shared rare memories of Martyr Major Shiv Dev Singh Sidhu as he was also his maternal uncle. He told that there is befitting reference to these brave hearts in War History.

Principal of the college Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu while paying rich tributes to their college Alumni Martyrs informed that college prominently displays their pictures in the library. Further, in a Coffee Table Book authored by college teacher Dr. Harblas on the occasion of college centenary(to be released by CM Punjab), there are special pages dedicated to the these martyrs. Swaranjit Savi-a renowned artist and also an alumnus of the college has befittingly given artistic touch to these pages.

Poet Gurbhajan Gill lamented that wars always snatch away youthful sons from their families so war hysteria must be shunned. Coordinator Goyal also recalled the terse message given by none else than this college’s own Alumnus Sahir Ludhianvi  who had penned out

“Jang to khud hi ek masla hai ,jang kiya maslon ka hal degi.

Aag aur khoon aaj bakshegi, bhookh aur ahtiaj kal daigi .

Is liye ai shareef insano jang talti rahe to behtar hai,

hum sabhi ke angan mein shamma jalti rahe to behtar hai” .

(War itself is a tedious problem before the world; it does not give any solution to the problem.Fire of destruction and blood are its consequences today. Hunger and deprivation it brings tomorrow. So, listen oh gentlemen, it is better if the war is avoided, it is better if the lamps keep lighting in our homes.)

PEF Strongly Rejects New National Education Policy

Principal Tarsem Bahia Explained Each and Every Point

Ludhiana
: 18th December 2020: (Education Screen Bureau)::

Punjab Educationists’ Forum (PEF) strongly rejects the anti-people, anti-poor, communal character of New National Education Policy. PEF organized almost dozens seminar in Punjab when proposals of NEP was introduced and we sent detailed suggestions to alter the policy to make it pro-people and pro-poor. But NEP policy was passed without taking care of the suggestions sent by different educational bodies and educationists. We have organized seminars in different parts of Punjab to highlight the damages which will occur if it policy be implemented in present form. We also sent these suggestions to Punjab government too. Taking note of our suggestions Punjab Government took note of it Chief Secretary Mr. Suresh Kumar suggested Principal Secretary Higher Education Mr. Rahul Bhandari and Special Secretary S. Paramjit Singh to call us for detailed discussions. The office bearers of PEF were invited and meeting was took place on December 15 at Chandigarh. The following important issues were discussed and we were able to convince the officials of higher education and they assured us to take care of the public interests while implementing the NEP.

A deputation of Punjab Educationists’ Forum led by Principal Tarsem Bahia (President of Forum) accompanying by Dr Surjit Singh (Secretary) and Dr Kuldip Singh (General Secretary) was invited by Principal Secretary Higher Education S. Rahul Bhandari and Special Secretary/DPI Colleges S. Paramjit Singh met on December 15 at Chandigarh and discussed various issues pertaining to higher education in Punjab and importantly the fall outs of New National Education Policy. The response and attitude of the authorities was quite constructive and sympathetic towards issues raised by us

One of the recommendations of New National Education Policy that institutions having student’s strength less than 3000 will be closed resulting which hundreds colleges existing in rural/girls colleges will be in danger, the authorities assured that the existence of rural and girls colleges will be taken care constructively.

The issue regarding the establishment of autonomous colleges without affiliation to any University was also discussed and authorities assured to maintain the status quo of already existing institutions.

The issue regarding the existence of single faculty colleges like B Ed colleges was also discussed where authorities assured to resolve it by constituting high powered committee in near future.

Restoration of Benefits of Security of Service to teachers working on unaided posts in aided colleges and teachers working in un-aided colleges. Already they were protected up to 2007 by Punjab Security of Service Act 1974 but it was amended in 2007 which ultimately withdrew the security of service and it encourages victimization of teachers around 60 teachers were suspended/ terminated in colleges recently.

The issue of recruitment of vacant posts of Assistant Professors and Principals in Government colleges was discussed and authorities assured to make the recruitment as early as possible. The issue of special financial package to Punjabi University Patiala was discussed and response was sympathetic.

The forum further blasted the anti-farmer character of the three agricultural acts of Modi government and decided to lend all support to the ongoing kisan agitation in New Delhi. The forum further exposed the anti- labor character of the newly adopted labor code by Government of India which in fact meant assault on democratic rights of the working class .The forum felt that all patriotic democratic patriotic sections of people should come together to meet challenges of time. Taking serious note of these acts and policies forum feels that Centre Government is working for the safe guards and interests of Big Industrial Houses and Corporates.

The forum does demand to form a Higher Education Regulatory Commission in Punjab in tune with State of Himachal Pradesh to ensure appropriate standards of admission, teaching, examinations, research and protection of the interests of students. Because the present higher education policies of Punjab are promoting commercialization and privatization of Higher Education in Punjab which is resulting the mushrooming of Private Universities (Around 30 universities in small state of Punjab).

Protection of Democratic Governance in Panjab University Chandigarh (Senate Elections) The elections of Senate was due in the month of September 2020 but was deferred in garb of COVID-19. The VC is taking important decisions with getting it approved from the highest body Syndicate. The present working of the University is against the University Act of Punjab. The BJP led center Govt and present VC is bent upon to dismantle it by alternating it with Board of Governors. The Panjab University Teachers’ Association has been staging dharna in front of VC residence since a long and also demanding long pending CAS and holding early elections of Senate. PEF has decided to join their Dharna  to show solidarity  on December 21 at PU Chandigarh

Hike in tuition fee for MBBS course should be withdrawal

 14th December 2020 at 4:54 PM

Doctors demand withdrawal of this increase in tuition fee in medical colleges

Ludhiana: 14th December 2020: (Education Screen Bureau)::

The Alliance of Doctors for Ethical Healthcare (ADEH) has condemned steep rise in the tuition fee for MBBS courses. The Haryana government has announced increased by 24.5% in the tuition fee by the private medical colleges. After this MBBS course will cost nearly 54 lakh rupees and additional charges of hostel and books etc. Dr G S Grewal former President Punjab Medical Council (PMC) and Dr. Arun Mitra, former Chairman Ethical committee PMC and members of core committee ADEH have demanded withdrawal of this increase. With such type of decisions not only the poor but the middle class families will not be able to send their wards to the medical colleges. This is a reflection of overall approach of the government towards the medical education. This approach is in total contravention to the need for universal health care to the people of the country. In spite of fact that government is fully aware that there is tremendous shortage of doctors, instead of making it affordable for common students with good marks, this decision is a message to poor and middle class students not to dream to be a doctor.

Government is well advised to invest in health and medical education and make education extremely affordable and withdraw its decision. Such a decision by one state government gives alibi to other states to follow the suit.
