GCG Ludhiana organizes freshers party for new students

Who knows how many students have reached high positions after studying from this college. The memories of all of them are also in the campus of this college. The walls and trees of the college remind us all. The rooms of this college still hold many memories. Similarly, there are new hopes too.

Just two days ago, on 21 August 2025, a grand freshers party was organized at Government College for Girls Ludhiana under the leadership of Principal Mrs. Suman Lata ji to welcome the new students. Principal Madam attended this party as the chief guest. She congratulated the students and wished them success in future. On this occasion, the students performed cultural programs as well as ramp walk and talent show, which added new colors to the celebration. In this fresher party, Siddhisha Bhandari (Miss Fresher), Manya Jhaam (First Runner-up), Tanveer (Second Runner-up) were selected. Along with this, Rishika Naib, Jaspreet Kaur, Chanchal, Anna, Prabhjot and Bhoomi were given special titles. The role of judges was played by Mrs. Mandeep Kaur, Mrs. Kamaldeep Kaur and Dr. Manisha.

Under the guidance of Principal Mrs. Suman Lata ji, Government College for Girls, Ludhiana organized a grand freshers party to welcome the new students. The chief guest, Principal Madam blessed the students with her motivational words. On this occasion, cultural programs, ramp walk and talent show were organized, which added colors and energy to the celebration. The coveted titles went to Siddhisha Bhandari (Ms. Freshers), Maniya Jhaam (1st Runner-up), Tanveer (2nd Runner-up) along with special titles to Rishika Naib, Jaspreet Kaur, Chanchal, Anna, Prabhjot and Bhoomi. The event was a grand success with the presence of judges Mrs. Kamaldeep Kaur, Mrs. Mandeep Kaur and Dr. Manisha and the smooth coordination of the Head of the Department Mrs. Sarita Khurana.

Hands-on Fire Safety Workshop at KCW

Department of Chemistry, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized a Hands-on Fire Safety Workshop in collaboration with KP Fire Safety Solutions. The workshop was conducted with the objective of creating awareness about fire hazards in laboratories and equipping students with practical knowledge on the safe handling of fire extinguishers and other preventive measures. The session was facilitated by Mr. Pankaj Maini who demonstrated various types of fire extinguishers and explained their appropriate usage in different fire situations. Students and faculty members actively participated in the workshop, learning how to respond promptly and effectively during fire emergencies.

The workshop highlighted the importance of preparedness, presence of mind and adherence to safety protocols in preventing accidents and ensuring a safe laboratory environment. The initiative taken by the Department of Chemistry was highly appreciated by madam Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal who motivated students to participate in more such workshops that can instill confidence among them to tackle unforeseen emergencies.

POWERGRID Inks an MoU with PEC, Chandigarh

MoU for Establishment of POWERGRID Centre of Excellence at PEC under CSR

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) signed an MoU on 06th June, 2025 with Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, for establishing "POWERGRID Centre of Excellence" at PEC under CSR.

Under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of POWERGRID, an MoU was signed, in a gracious event, by Shri Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director (Northern Region-II) on behalf of POWERGRID and Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director (ad-interim) on behalf of PEC, Chandigarh in the august presence of Sh. Rajeev Verma, IAS, Chief Secretary, Chandigarh - UT, Shri R. K.Tyagi, Chairman & Managing Director, POWERGRID and Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS, Secretary Education, Chandigarh Administration - UT. Senior officers from POWERGRID including Sh. Vikram Singh Bhal, Executive Director CMG- Coordination, Sh. Jasbir Singh, Executive Director (CSR), Sh. Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director Technical Education, Chandigarh Administration - UT, Deans, HoDs & Senior faculty members of PEC and officials from technical education, Chandigarh were also present during the signing ceremony.

Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh sought support from POWERGRID for the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility to provide cutting-edge resources for its students, offering them the opportunity to engage in advanced training with hands-on practice in the evolving & industry driven area of Power and Energy Engineering. POWERGRID, as a responsible Corporate Citizen accepted the request and is rendering its helping hand in establishing the "POWERGRID Centre of Excellence" (COE) at PEC.

Being established at an estimated financial implication of 17,19,26,000/- (Rupees Seven- teen Crore Nineteen Lakh and Twenty-Six Thousand Only), the centre envisages to open new avenues for students learning. It will help Research Scholars and Faculty to strengthen research in the Power and Energy sector. This facility will focus on strengthening the course curriculum of Electrical Engineering disciples at PEC. The proposed facility is intended to enhance the laboratory set up in thrust areas like numerical relays, Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), inverters, cyber security, e-mobility, controller's laboratory etc. set for real-time simulation for demonstration & training.

On this occasion Director PEC Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia expressed his gratitude towards POWERGRID for taking up this CSR initiative for providing this infrastructure in their Institute which is bound to benefit the students and researchers in the field of electrical engineering.

Guest of Honor, CMD POWERGRID Sh. R.K. Tyagi shared his nostalgic feelings towards his alma-mater PEC. He emphasised on One Grid, One Nation, One frequency, from one corner of the country to another corner of the country with synchronised grids. He said "Under part of CSR, this center of excellence is a small token from our side."   

Chief Guest, Sh. Rajeev Verma (IAS), Chief Secretary, praised this gesture of POWERGRID and PEC to empower individuals to transform the sectors. The establishment of this Centre of Excellence would be a beacon of advanced research and innovation. it will buffer the state of art facilities for UG, PG and PhD Students. it would boost power and energy sectors towards India's Initiative of Viksit Bharat, Energy Security and next zero emission nation.

Ved Prachar Mandal conducts Declamation Contest

Ved Prachar Mandal , Ludhiana conducted Vedic Declamation Competition in English , Punjabi and Hindi in BCM Arya School , Lalton. Around 50 students from Classes IV to XI participated in this competition .  The competition featured speeches in English, Punjabi, and Hindi on thought-provoking topics such as The True Name of the Supreme Soul – Om, True Guides of Humanity – The Vedas, The Importance of Yama and Niyama in Life, and The Leader of Social Awakening – Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati.

The Chief Guests Mr. Roshan Lal Arya, founder of Ved Prachar Mandal Punjab. Sh. Roshan Lal shared that Arya Samaj is an organisation solely devoted to the task of propagating and promoting the eternal values and wisdom of the vedas among the masses. The First Position was  bagged by Rehmat Kaur of Class- VII, Second by Ansh of Class- VII and third position was bagged by Krishiv of Class- VI.

The Principal, Mrs. Kritika Seth congratulated all the prize winners and appreciated their efforts.
