Hike in tuition fee for MBBS course should be withdrawal

 14th December 2020 at 4:54 PM

Doctors demand withdrawal of this increase in tuition fee in medical colleges

Ludhiana: 14th December 2020: (Education Screen Bureau)::

The Alliance of Doctors for Ethical Healthcare (ADEH) has condemned steep rise in the tuition fee for MBBS courses. The Haryana government has announced increased by 24.5% in the tuition fee by the private medical colleges. After this MBBS course will cost nearly 54 lakh rupees and additional charges of hostel and books etc. Dr G S Grewal former President Punjab Medical Council (PMC) and Dr. Arun Mitra, former Chairman Ethical committee PMC and members of core committee ADEH have demanded withdrawal of this increase. With such type of decisions not only the poor but the middle class families will not be able to send their wards to the medical colleges. This is a reflection of overall approach of the government towards the medical education. This approach is in total contravention to the need for universal health care to the people of the country. In spite of fact that government is fully aware that there is tremendous shortage of doctors, instead of making it affordable for common students with good marks, this decision is a message to poor and middle class students not to dream to be a doctor.

Government is well advised to invest in health and medical education and make education extremely affordable and withdraw its decision. Such a decision by one state government gives alibi to other states to follow the suit.
